Welcome to ARNE&CARLOS x Joji Locatelli  - Knitting under the Northern Lights!

Welcome to Norway for our special edition knitting cruise onboard MS Midnatsol! For our March 2026 trip, ARNE & CARLOS have invited knit designer Joji Locatelli from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to join and host the cruise with them. This eventful journey will start in Bergen, where we will meet at our lovely Home Hotel Havnekontoret. Before we board the ship, we will enjoy an exciting full-day tour of the areas surrounding Bergen - with visits to Hillesvåg Ullvarefrabrikk, the oldest yarn factory in Norway and the knitwear producer Oleana. Our sailing is Hurtigruten's original and iconic roundtrip voyage along the Norwegian coast, which travels northbound, across the Arctic Circle, up to Kirkenes, and back. This 12-day journey features some of the most stunning scenery on the planet, with Norway's world-famous fjords on full display, dotted with farms and charming fishing villages with a backdrop of spectacular mountains. The sheer beauty of these idyllic landscapes will take your breath away! Along our journey, in each direction, our ship will stop at 34 coastal communities, big and small, day and night. As this is both a passenger and a working ship which carries supplies and mail to local communities along the coast, we will dock in villages and towns for 10 to 45 minutes and in cities for a few hours to offload and pick up both cargo and passengers. The ports we visit at night on the northbound voyage will be seen during the day when travelling southbound.

March is perfect for 'the world's most beautiful sea voyage' and to experience the mythical Northern Lights. Although science today has revealed many of the secrets of the Northern Lights, we still allow ourselves to be captivated by the mystery of the sky's fireworks. In earlier days, the Northern Lights, whose Latin name is the Aurora Borealis, were the basis of many myths and superstitions. To see the Aurora, it must be dark, and the skies must be clear. A few hours before and around midnight, the Northern Lights are seen most frequently and at their most intense. During the tour, you will enjoy the company of your hosts ARNE & CARLOS and Joji, attend their interesting lectures and participate in their exciting mystery knitalong!

Highlights

  • The world’s most beautiful sea voyage onboard MS Midnatsol
  • Visit Hillesvåg – oldest yarn factory in Norway
  • Excursion to North Cape is included
  • Amazing Northern Lights - hopefully!
  • An exclusive mystery Knit Along project and yarn kit co-designed by Joji Locatelli x ARNE & CARLOS only available on this trip.

Day 2      Bergen - embarkation 14 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
After a lovely breakfast in the hotel, it is time for check out and the full day tour of Bergen and surrounding area. A very interesting visit to Norway’s oldest yarn factory Hillesvåg is on the program, with an opportunity to buy their products at the factory outlet. Lunch will be at Oleana – with stunning fjord views. Oleana produces beautiful knitwear. Before embarkation, enjoy a trip up the funicular to Fløyen, from where there is a fantastic view over Bergen and the surrounding mountains. You may even get a first glimpse of your ship MS Midnatsol! The tour ends at Hurtigruten Terminal and embarkation starts at 16.30. Dinner will be served at the Main Restaurant, and the first evening is open seating and a delicious buffet. The ship sails from Bergen at 20.30.

Day 3      Ålesund 15 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
In Ålesund, the inhabitants claim this is Norway’s most beautiful town – and they could very well be right! The city is renowned for its beautiful Art Nouveau architecture. This is an extended port of call, and the ship will remain in Ålesund all day, with plenty of opportunities to explore this charming town, maybe hike up to the viewpoint Aksla, or take part in one of the tours organized by the ship (additional cost).

Day 4      Trondheim 16 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
Trondheim was founded by Vikings in 997 AD. The most famous building here is Nidaros Cathedral built in Gothic style. You can explore the city on your own or take part in one of Hurtigruten’s optional excursions (additional cost).

Day 5      Crossing the Arctic Circle - Bodø 17 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
Today we cross the Arctic Circle! As we sail northwards the landscape changes and it also gets colder normally, and more snow. During the call in Bodø you may want to join Hurtigruten’s excursion to Saltstraumen – the world’s most powerful maelstrom. We sail through the Lofoten archipelago towards the pretty fishing village Svolvær, for a late evening call.

Day 6      Tromsø 18 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
Enjoy Norway’s beautiful coastal scenery as MS Midnatsol sails north, stopping at all together 34 ports, carrying not only passengers but mail and goods as well – this is a working ship with an interesting mix of locals and tourists. In the afternoon the ship will arrive in Tromsø, gateway to the Arctic and the largest city in Northern Norway – also called ‘Paris of the North’, because of its lively restaurant and bar scene.

Day 7      At the top of Norway – North Cape 19 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
Arrival Honningsvåg - the portal to the North Cape, where a globe monument marks the top of Europe. The very popular excursion up to the dramatic promontory is included in this travel adventure!

Day 8      Kirkenes the bordertown 20 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
Kirkenes is the turning point for the northbound journey, and MS Midnatsol changes direction and heads south. Kirkenes suffered severe damage during the WWII bombings. The town is quite an outpost influenced by many different cultures and nationalities. The ship offers interesting tours in Kirkenes and surrounding areas (additional costs).

Day 9      At the top of Europe - Hammerfest  21 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
Cruising southbound MS Midnatsol calls at Hammerfest which used to be the northernmost town in the world before Longyearbyen in Svalbard claimed the title. As the cruise continues south to Tromsø, you may glimpse views of the Lyngen Alps, which boast some of the highest peaks in all of Norway.

Day 10      Lofoten Archipelago 22 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
Today you will explore the stunning Lofoten archipelago, a highlight of the scenic route. The birthplace of Hurtigruten Stokmarknes is a port of call where the Hurtigruten museum can be visited. The building resembles a ship in a bottle and chronicles the Hurtigruten legacy.

Day 11      Helgeland coast  - where the trolls live 23 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
Admire the fascinating mountain range the Seven Sisters and see the hole passing straight through Torghatten mountain and learn about the myths and legends from the area. This part of the coast is stunning!

Day 12      Viking capital and Bacalao capital 24 Mar 26 (B, L, D)
Two important ‘capitals’ will be visited today - Trondheim the Viking capital and Kristiansund the bacalao capital! If you missed attractions in Trondheim on the northbound journey, now is your chance to catch up. The ship offers an excursion to The Atlantic Road - ranked as the world’s best road trip by The Guardian. This is our last evening onboard and we will meet for a farewell drink!

Day 13      Fjord country and the home stretch to Bergen 25 mar 26 (B, L, D)
As MS Midnatsol takes us south towards Bergen, enjoy the stunning coastal scenery and fjord landscape, on our last day onboard. The ship docks in Bergen at 14.45 in the afternoon and it is time to say goodbye to the ship’s crew, new friends, ARNE&CARLOS and Joji after a wonderful time with lots of lovely memories!
