Day 1 14 Sep 2022 - Arrival Oslo
Arrival Oslo, Norway from your home destination, by own arrangement. Check in at your hotel in downtown Oslo – Clarion The Hub, which is located next to the central station and within walking distance to many restaurants and good shopping areas.
Day 2 15 Sep 2022 Oslo City Tour (B, L)
Welcome to a full day city tour of Oslo where you will visit all the major attractions - Vigelands Park, Holmenkollen Ski Jump, the Opera House and Bygdøy with the stave church. Lunch is included at Frognerseteren Restaurant from where it is a fabulous view of the Norwegian capital. Enjoy the evening in Oslo at your own leisure.
Day 3 16 Sep 2022 Oslo - Bergen (B, L)
A relaxing day traveling by train from Oslo to Bergen, a scenic train ride over the mountain range between east and west Norway. The train is comfortable and a lunch box will be provided. Your luggage will be transported separately. There is also a café on board the train. The trip takes about seven hours. In Bergen we will check into our lovely Hotel Havnekontoret located in Bryggen area. A light evening meal at the hotel is included, or visit one of the local restaurants nearby.
Day 4 17 Sep 2022 Bergen Tour - embarkation (B, L, D)
After a lovely breakfast in Hotel Havnekontoret, it is time for check out, and the full-day tour of Bergen and the surrounding area starts. A very interesting visit to Norway’s oldest yarn factory Hillesvåg is on the program, with an opportunity to buy their products at the factory outlet. Lunch will be at Oleana – with an amazing fjord view. Oleana produces beautiful knitwear. The tour ends at Hurtigruten Terminal and embarkation starts at 16.00. Welcome cocktail onboard MS Nordlys with ARNE&CARLOS at 17.30. You will receive your Mystery Knitalong Kit. Dinner will be served at the Main Restaurant at 18.30.
Day 5 18 Sep 2022 Ålesund – The Hjørundfjord (B, L, D)
In Ålesund the inhabitants claim this is Norway’s most beautiful town – and they could very well be right. The city is renowned for its stunning Art Nouveau architecture. From Ålesund the ship will visit the Hjørundfjord which is one of the most untouched, idyllic, and beautiful fjords in Norway. It is a 35-kilometer (22 mi) long arm of the larger Storfjorden in the district of Sunnmøre in Western Norway. The Hjørundfjord is surrounded by the Sunnmøre Alps, with peaks that reach up to 1,700 meters straight up from the fjord. The steep mountains plunging right down in the fjord have made it impossible to cultivate the land area. Most of the natural vegetation is still intact. Although there is not much space for settlements here, a few obstinate tiny farms cling to the mountainsides and there are some small villages along the fjord.
Day 6 19 Sep 2022 Trondheim (B, L, D)
Trondheim was founded by Vikings in 997 AD. The most famous building here is Nidaros Cathedral built in Gothic style. Explore the city on your own or take part in one of Hurtigruten’s optional excursions (additional cost). After departure from Trondheim, join ARNE&CARLOS for an inspiring lecture in the ship’s conference room.
Day 7 20 Sep 2022 Crossing the Arctic Circle - Bodø (B, L, D)
Today we cross the Arctic Circle! As we sail northwards the nights get longer and the days shorter and we may experience the Northern Lights! During the call in Bodø you may want to join Hurtigruten’s excursion to Saltstraumen – the world’s most powerful maelstrom. In Bodø, our guest lecturer Annemor Sundbø will join the ship. She is a government grant holder and a recipient of the King's Medal - she is also known as the 'Norwegian Sweater Detective'. We sail through the Lofoten archipelago towards the pretty fishing village Svolvær, for a late evening call.
Day 8 21 Sep 2022 Tromsø (B, L, D)
Enjoy Norway’s beautiful coastal scenery as MS Nordlys sails north, stopping at altogether 34 ports, carrying not only passengers but mail and goods as well – this is a working ship with an interesting mix of locals and tourists. In the afternoon the ship will arrive in Tromsø, a gateway to the Arctic and the largest city in Northern Norway – also called ‘Paris of the North’, because of its lively restaurant and bar scene.
Day 9 22 Sep 2022 At the top of Norway – North Cape (B, L, D)Arrival Honningsvåg - the portal to the North Cape, where a globe monument marks the top of Europe. The very popular excursion up to the dramatic promontory is included in this travel adventure!
Day 10 23 Sep 2022 Kirkenes – disembarkation (B)
Kirkenes is where the coastal express changes direction and head south and our cruise on board the MS Nordlys is over, and it is time to disembark. The transfer bus to the small airport in Kirkenes. Kirkenes suffered severe damage during WWII bombings. From Kirkenes we take a domestic flight to Oslo, which takes about 3 hours – included in the tour package. A bus will take us from the airport our lovely downtown hotel in Oslo, The Hub, which is located next to the central station and within walking distance to many restaurants and good shopping areas. Enjoy the evening and explore Oslo at your own leisure.
