Welcome to ARNE & CARLOS' English Gardens of Devon and Cornwall!

At the far edge of England, where the land rolls toward the sea, the landscape softens into a tapestry of green and gold. The air is gentle, the light diffused, and the gardens seem to grow as naturally as the hedgerows that frame them. This is the southwest — a place where nature and artistry have always walked hand in hand.

The journey begins in Windsor, and continues to Somerset, among stately homes and old stone walls draped in wisteria. Here, lawns sweep toward quiet lakes, and borders spill over with lavender, foxglove, and rose. It is a landscape of elegance and order, touched by centuries of patience and care.

Further south, Devon opens wide — a countryside of rolling hills and deep valleys, where the moors rise into open skies streaked with heather and mist. The colours shift constantly, as if the whole county breathes in rhythm with the weather.

And then, Cornwall: bold, lush, and shaped by the sea. The Gulf Stream brings warmth, and the gardens answer — magnolias towering above palms, ferns dripping with rain, and paths that lead down to hidden coves. At its heart lies The Lost Gardens of Heligan, once swallowed by time, now glowing again in shades of green.

From Somerset’s graceful estates to the wild, subtropical valleys of Cornwall, this is England in full bloom — romantic, abundant, and alive with quiet wonder.

The gardens of our tour are carefully selected, representing some of the most beautiful and interesting gardens and manors in the country. The hotels throughout the tour are also chosen for their charm and character, in good locations, and as a fitting backdrop and place of rest after touring the gardens.

Highlights:

  • Explore The Lost Gardens of Heligan, one of Europe’s most enchanting garden restorations -  a living story of rediscovery and beauty.
  • Discover the elegant City of Bath, celebrated for its Georgian architecture, Roman Baths, and timeless charm.
  • Wake to sea air in Falmouth, Cornwall’s lively harbour town, surrounded by subtropical gardens and dramatic coastal scenery.
  • Step back in time at Lanhydrock House, a perfectly preserved Edwardian home revealing the rhythm of life from grand dining rooms to bustling kitchens and sculleries
  • Visit Antony House, a gem of Georgian architecture — and wander through its whimsical gardens the same way Alice once did in Alice in Wonderland.
  • Experience the timeless comfort of Bovey Castle, a five-star country estate nestled in the rolling hills of Dartmoor National Park.
  • Travel and knit in the warm company of ARNE & CARLOS, sharing inspiration, stories, and quiet moments of joy along the way.

After exploring the Abbey and the Royal Crescent, we gather for a traditional pub lunch. The rest of the day is yours — to wander the shops, visit a museum, or simply enjoy Bath’s relaxed rhythm before evening.

Day 4              24 May 2026 - Bath to Falmouth (B, D)

After breakfast, we depart Bath and travel south through the rolling countryside. The morning takes us to Montacute House, one of the finest Elizabethan mansions in England, framed by formal gardens and centuries-old yew hedges. After lunch at the café, our route continues across Dartmoor National Park, where sheep graze among granite tors beneath an open sky. By late afternoon, we arrive in Falmouth, a lively harbour town shaped by salt air and maritime history. Dinner is served at the Greenbank Hotel, overlooking the calm waters of the bay.

Day 5              25 May 2026 – St. Ives (B, D)

Today we travel to St Ives, one of Cornwall’s most picturesque coastal towns. Famous for its artists and brilliant light, it’s a place where sea and sky meet in shifting shades of blue. We visit the Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden, where her sculpted forms rise among palms and ferns, followed by the Tate St Ives, with views across the beach and harbour. There will be free time to explore and have lunch at one of the seafront cafés before returning to Falmouth for dinner at a local restaurant.

After breakfast, we set out toward the legendary St Michael’s Mount, a tidal island where myth, history, and nature meet. At low tide, we walk across the causeway; when the tide returns, small boats bring us back to shore. The medieval castle and terraced gardens overlook the sea, creating one of Cornwall’s most unforgettable sights. Following lunch, we continue to Trengwainton Gardens, a tranquil sanctuary of exotic and subtropical plants thriving in Cornwall’s mild climate. The evening is at leisure back in Falmouth.

Day 7              27 May 2026  -  The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Wine Tasting (B, D)

This morning we visit The Lost Gardens of Heligan, one of Britain’s most celebrated garden restorations. Once hidden beneath decades of overgrowth, it has been lovingly brought back to life — a place where walled gardens, woodlands, and meadows blend into a timeless landscape. There will be time for lunch before we continue to Knightor Winery for a tour and tasting of their excellent wines. Dinner is served back at the Greenbank Hotel, overlooking Falmouth Harbour.

Our day begins at Lanhydrock House, a magnificent Victorian estate offering a vivid glimpse into Edwardian life. The grand rooms and working kitchens reveal the world “upstairs and downstairs,” preserved in remarkable detail. In the afternoon, we visit Antony House, an early 18th-century gem surrounded by sculpted lawns and whimsical gardens. Its dreamlike atmosphere made it the filming location for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (2010). Later, we travel through Dartmoor to Bovey Castle, where we dine and spend the night in comfort.

Day 9              29 May 2026 –  Marwood Hill Gardens (B, D)

This morning we visit Marwood Hill Gardens, a peaceful private garden set in a sheltered valley. Its three lakes, flowering trees, and vibrant borders create a haven for reflection and beauty.
